Born in Hungary; California State University, Hayward (B.S., Finance, 1997);
University of San Francisco School of Law (J.D., 2003). Joined the Firm as
finance manager in 1999; associated with the firm as an attorney in January 2004.
Alex Turan's previous experience includes strategic and tactical business
planning, business development, risk management, and organizational development,
as well as various contract and real estate lease negotiations. Alex's financial
experience includes forecasting and budgeting, maintaining banking and
brokerage relationships, and SEC compliance.
Alex was among the plaintiffs' counsel who, in early 2004, oversaw distribution
to class members from a multi-million dollar settlement fund in Alakayak,
et al. v. All Alaskan Seafoods, Inc., et al. (Alaska Superior Court,
Anchorage). That case involved a class of Bristol Bay salmon fishermen in a
$1 billion price-fixing suit against seafood processors and foreign
importers of processed seafood. Alex also worked from inception to
settlement on various cases litigated in California state courts, including one
case that went to trial in San Diego Superior Court.
Alex's experience in federal cases includes working in In re Intel Corp. Microprocessor
Antitrust Litig., MDL 1717 (District of Delaware), which alleges monopolization
of the market for x86 microprocessors. He is also actively working with other counsel for
plaintiffs in Allied Orthopedic Appliances, Inc. v. Tyco Health Care Group,
L.P. (Central District of California), which alleges monopolization of the market
for pulse oximetry products. Other federal cases in which he has been involved recently
include In re Urethanes Antitrust Litigation (District of Kansas), which
alleges price-fixing in the market for urethane products, and In re Tableware
Antitrust Litig. (Northern District of California), which alleged an
anticompetitive boycott among retailers. The Tableware case was tried in June 2007 before
the Hon. Vaughn R. Walker.
